DURACELL ALKALINE BATTERIES
I have used Duracell brand batteries for many decades and they were
"top of the line"
as far as their longevity, however
the past decade their batteries, especially the D, C, AA, AAA have been
very prone to leakage and ultimately destroying some of the devices they were
used in. Other devices had the battery contact terminals corroded
and was a pain to get them cleaned.
A decision was made today (01-16-2023) to
not ever purchase another Duracell battery except
maybe the 9V, of which I had
not experienced any battery leakage, but usually replace them twice a
year in smoke detectors, etc.
The batteries will normally leak at the seal on the negative side of the
battery and not all brand of DC voltage batteries experience such
leakage. Duracell in my humble opinion have cut corners making the
outside of the case with thinner materials which allows for the battery
leakage.
I have noticed that TV remotes and other portable devices using other
brand of batteries have not leaked and most of the batteries were
manufactured in Japan and other countries, especially the Panasonic
brand battery.
With this in mind, batteries such as the D, C, AA, AAA can be made where
they will not leak and last the lifetime of the battery such as the
Toshiba brand batteries.
What prompted this review was I recently had to replace the AAA Duracell
batteries in a Ozart headlamp that was not working due to battery
leakage and corroded battery contact terminals and one other device that
used the AA battery..It should be noted that the expiration date on
the leaking AA Duracell battery below is 2028 and definitely didn't make
it to that date!
I found one AA Duracell leaking battery that I had not disposed of yet
and took the following pixs:
No where on the battery is a warning about a possible leakage of the
battery corrosive contents! The battery contents are usually zinc,
high-density manganese dioxide, and potassium hydroxide.
As the ole saying goes, "A picture is
worth a thousand words", therefore I rest my case!

I was checking out spare head lamps I have in storage/reserve on
08-03-2023 and found corroded batteries in both of the unopened head
lamp packages.
As I state many, many times, "A picture
is worth a thousand words."

ANOTHER DURACELL BITES THE DUST
The expiration date on this C battery is December 2024, didn't make
it that long for use!
I still have a few Duracell batteries in stock and replacing them
with Panasonic and/or Toshiba batteries.
