Close up pix of deep fried roe aka Poor Man's Caviar with all the trimmings.
Above Crappie roe was outstanding! My bride passed on the roe and
stayed with the fried Crappie and Bream aka Sunfish instead.
The first time I had fish roe if memory is correct, was sometime in the early
1960s. I had breakfast with my Aunt Hattie
Coley's brother
Henry Price, who I mention in my short story titled
Brownie. I can't remember if
the roe aka eggs were in grits or scrambled eggs. Henry would catch
catfish that would have very large roe membranes and good sized eggs ideal
for eating.
The deep fried Crappie and Sunfish roe is very tasty with its own unique flavor and not
"fishy" tasting as one
might think.
