RACHEL'S BIRTHDAY PARTY 09-06-14
Jerry and Kathy Adcock gave us a call earlier in the week inviting us to a
Birthday Party they were giving to Rachel Myers at the Hilltop Restaurant in
Monroe, NC on 09-06-14 at 1:00 PM. Rachel would be celebrating her
75th birthday and we certainly jumped at the chance to attend.
My bride and I, along with Boyce Adcock got there a little early and Jerry
and Kathy were waiting in the doorway to the room reserved for the party and
it is always good to see Jerry and Kathy. After about 15 minutes,
everyone that was able to attend had arrived and there were eleven (11)
total.
Below pix of Rachel and Wink Myers:
The majority elected to order the buffet and and it wasn't long before
everyone had their turn at the buffet and my plate looked like it sported
side planks with all the different food items piled onto the plate....grin
if you must!
There was no food styling present on the above plate on my part, however the
food was very good.
Wink Myers gave grace and that was the first time I have heard someone
pray them self into a corner and he prayed himself out of the corner in due
time. I must admit, that we all grinned and a few grinned out loud.
I believe Wink included in his prayer about Rachel having lived a
loooooong life
and he immediately corrected and added a long and good life and it continued
to get better from there. Everyone that knows Wink Myers is fully
aware he is a 100 percent truly dedicated Christian as well as Rachel and
both have devoted their lives to promote the Wadesboro Church of God and
spread the Gospel in their own unique way:
Mark 16.15 KJV Bible.
It seems like only yesterday in my
mind’s eye
when Rachel was teaching the Young Adult class of which it was her passion
to try and keep us knuckle heads focused on spiritual things and she did
succeed, whereas those valuable life lessons did take root.
After the prayer, it wasn't long before it got a little quiet as usual
while everyone was enjoying their meal. Below a few candid thumbnail
pixs taken and click on the thumbnails for a larger screen view:
After everyone had finished their meal, several shared some special
memories about Rachel and Frankie Beachum read a poem that her husband
"Bruzy" aka Dalton had written and below is a transcript of the poem:
Rachel, you know I love you like a hog loves slop
For your birthday my infamous work list would stop.
But my TV is on the blink
I must see my sports, ask Wink!
Direct TV will be here between noon and four
And I must be here to open the door.
The Richmond race is on Saturday night
And if I miss it, there could be a fight.
So Happy Birthday and I hope you have many more,
Before you go through Heaven's door.
Enjoy your lunch (with family)
What a bunch!
Love Bruz....I ran out of inspiration.
Over the years, my bride aka Joyce and Rachel have went on many
trips/vacations together and their farthest road trip was to Minnesota to
visit kinfolk. Both of them love to cook and bake and they got a
chance to go by the headquarters of the publishing/parent company that
produces the Taste of Home Cookbooks and magazine located in Racine, Wisconsin.
Rachel did all the driving and my bride was the co-pilot/navigator who
assisted with the map reading and keeping a safety lookout, etc.
Below pixs of the birthday cake:
Kathy thought about putting candles on the cake but was certain the fire
alarm would go off when the candles were all lighted.........another grin if you
must!
Frankie doing the cake cutting and the cake was very tasty for sure.
Cards and presents were given to Rachel and she thanked everyone for
coming to celebrate her 75th birthday and expressed her love to all.
The Adcock family (Klan) is a very caring family with many natural God
given talents and they do enrich the personal lives of not only family
members but many others as well. Rachel and Wink Myers Christian life
is an example for all of us to emulate and they do
live by example, whereby practicing what they preach!
My bride has made the statement numerous times, "If those two don't make it into
Heaven, there is no hope for the rest of us" and we most certainly believe
God has a special place for both of them in Heaven when he calls them home!
In closing, "Two of the Greatest Ships that
ever sailed: Friendship and Fellowship."
May God richly bless each and everyone of you and hope and pray Rachel
Myers enjoys many
more birthdays.
