ADCOCK SISTER'S SIXTH ANNUAL RETREAT 2014Frankie Beachum coordinated the Adcock Sister's sixth annual retreat for
this year from October 10th thru the 13th and she reserved rooms for those
that could attend at the
Truett Baptist Camp
there in Hayesville, NC. My bride and I elected to stay only two
nights, whereas the rest were staying three nights to attend some activities
taking place on Sunday through out the day. The rooms Frankie reserved
for us were excellent with two double sized beds in each room and we didn't have to share
bathrooms this year nor did we get locked out of the adjoining bathroom a
couple times as
was the case last year .........grin if you must!
The weather was excellent on the 10th and we stopped at the Waffle House
in Monroe, NC and had their All-Star breakfast which provided enough energy
to work in a sawmill for a couple days! We drove the southern route
down I 85 south entering the north western corner of Georgia onto Hayesville
of which the mountains were fantastic. The entire one way drive was
between 5 1/2 to 6 hours not counting a couple
stops we made for breakfast and a restroom pit stop. The fall colors
were not at their peak yet but the reds were beginning to come forth very
well. Nevertheless, the mountain scenery was gorgeous. It
reminded me of a story my bride relates about our first grandson, Travis Lee
Huneycutt who was in
Kinder Garden and they were on a field trip and one of
his teachers
commented on the wonders of God's creation and how the fall colors were so
beautiful and Travis replied, "And God did
real good, he stayed in
the lines too" of which Travis told my bride the story
when she picked him up from school and she smiled real big and hugged the little rascal and
hasn't forgotten that to this day.
I had forgotten the exact route to the Truett Baptist Camp and didn't
have the address in the GPS unit, although I do have a cell phone with web
access and text capability but only use it to make outgoing calls and
receive calls and mainly for emergency usage. I do not do any texting
and leave that to those that are willing to literally take their own lives
in their two hands while driving, of which I am sure is illegal to do so in
many States but
in our current society, that doesn't count for too much. With
my own personal low usage of today's technology, we therefore went to Roy and Aline's home
which was still in the GPS unit and
were warmly welcomed by Aline. Roy had driven their oldest daughter
Tammy Smit to visit Roy's old home place and they returned later. We
visited a while and Roy and Aline led us to the reserved motel rooms at the
Truett Baptist Camp and the majority of the Sister's and spouses were
already there waiting on someone to lead the way since we were staying at a
different location on the campus this year.
Friday afternoon/evening we met at
Daniel's Steak House in Hiawassee, Georgia and each ordered
from the buffet and we enjoyed the the Friendship and Fellowship of one
another and made some lasting memories. As I commented last year about
Roy's health issues, he is holding his own and did not wish to take
radiation and Chemo and is at peace with his decision. It certainly is
a stressful situation but Roy trusts in the Lord and his strong faith in the
Lord is an inspiration and example for all of us to emulate!
Roy and Aline planned a picnic for us on Saturday at the Lake in
Hayesville if the
weather was conducive, however it was overcast with misting rain and the
picnic was held in the Conference Room at the motel where we were
staying.
Roy and Aline came over on Saturday mid-afternoon and both their vehicles
were loaded down with the picnic items which consisted of BBQ, baked beans,
baked potatoes, tomatoes, fruit tray, two different cakes, PayDay bar type
treats, slaw, rolls, etc.
Roy had made Afghans for the Sisters and Brother of which took about
two miles of yarn and at least 55 hours to crochet each one which was a task
indeed! Roy is one multi-talented person who enjoys doing for others
and had a 25 pound box of tomatoes for each family
and bags of home made Cracker Jack type popcorn which is much better than
the Cracker Jack brand. Everyone enjoyed that wonderful meal aka
indoor picnic and we were tight as ticks for sure.

Due to the weather conditions, there wasn't much opportunity to capture
the mountain fall beauty on digital media but maybe next year the weather will be more
agreeable, the Lord willing of course.
Below a group pix:
Tammy Smit was behind my camera on this one!
Pix of Roy, Aline and Tammy.....had to do some background cloning with PhotoShop CS2
because there was a serious ghost type shadow cast by the camera flash on the right edge of Roy and Aline but
got most of it out. The fluorescent overhead lights did a color shift
but the above pix came out pretty good anyway!
It was great to see Tammy and her son Derek again and speaking for all of us, we had a
most wonderful time.
My bride and I took a different route coming back home of which it rained
most of the day but not so hard to present a serious safety driving hazard.
We stopped again at the Huddle House there in Hayesville, NC and had an
early breakfast Sunday morning which held us down until after 1 PM and stopped at a Red
Lobster in Matthews, NC for a seafood lunch which was very good. A few
times, the sun peaked through the clouds but most of the time the mountains
looked like a fire was going by all the smoky looking clouds present:
In closing, this was a great mini-vacation aka Sister's Retreat and
enjoyed the friendship and fellowship of family and look forward when we can
do so again.
Please keep Roy and Aline in your daily prayers and pray for each and
everyone of us that the Lord's will be accomplished in our lives.
Proverbs 3:5-6 King James Version (KJV)
5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own
understanding.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
