TWEET'S SLOPPY JOES
INGREDIENTS:
2 pounds Ground Beef or ground venison
1 Large Green Bell Pepper, Diced
1 Large Vidalia Onion, Diced
1 cup Ketchup
2 Tablespoons Brown Sugar
1 teaspoon Chili Powder
1 Tablespoon prepared Mustard (to taste)
4 cloves Garlic, Minced or 1/2 teaspoon Garlic Powder to taste (Optional)
2 teaspoons Kosher or Sea Salt
2 teaspoons Worcestershire Sauce
1/2 teaspoon fresh Ground Black Peppercorns
(Tellicherry)
1 can Campbell's Cheddar Cheese Soup
6 Kaiser Rolls
Place a large skillet on medium heat, add ground beef
and/or ground venison. If using ground venison, add two tablespoons of
olive oil; cook until brown. Drain the majority of fat and discard. Add bell
pepper, garlic, onions and continue to cook until vegetables are tender with
lid on skillet; about 10 to 15 minutes. Add ketchup, prepared mustard,
brown sugar, salt, Worcestershire sauce, black pepper and Cheddar Cheese
soup stirring well and simmer an additional 10 minutes uncovered to marry flavors and
reduce liquid.
Adjust seasonings as needed.
Heat Kaiser rolls on skillet or microwave each roll for 15 seconds and
spread Mayonnaise or your favorite condiment on each Kaiser roll and spoon
Sloppy Joe mixture on one side of the roll.
Serve while hot with fries, chips or whatever condiments you desire.
YIELD: 6 servings

My bride aka "Tweet" prepared Sloppy Joes while our
kids were growing up
in the late 1960s throughout the 1980s and we lost her
original hand written recipe during a move 26 years ago. This is a very good
guesstimate at the best for her recipe and her recipe was
different by using a can of Campbell's condensed Cheddar Cheese Soup which
doesn't require you to use cheese slices unless you want to. The
cheese flavor is in the mixture. I will tweak this recipe the
next time I do it and will post sequence pixs. Bill aka Mickey Porter 06-12-12.
My bride and myself were impressed
with this recipe and it is very easy to fix too. This recipe taste
much better than the Manwich brand mix for Sloppy Joes, IMHO! My bride
also stated that she used only 1 lb. of burger way back when; didn't
use any Chili powder and used regular hamburger buns instead of the Kaiser
rolls. I plan to tweak it one more time adding an additional teaspoon
of Worcestershire Sauce and an additional teaspoon of prepared mustard for
just a little more zing to the ole taste buds!
