EASTER LUNCH 2015
Easter,
which celebrates Jesus Christ’s resurrection from the dead, is
Christianity’s most important holiday. It has been called a moveable feast
because it doesn’t fall on a set date every year, as most holidays do.
Instead, Christian churches in the West celebrate Easter on the first Sunday
following the full moon after the vernal equinox on March 21. Therefore,
Easter is observed anywhere between March 22 and April 25 every year.
Orthodox Christians use the Julian calendar to calculate when Easter will
occur and typically celebrate the holiday a week or two after the Western
churches, which follow the Gregorian calendar.
This years observance of Easter is April 5, 2015 and ole man winter is
still hanging on to the colder weather that was 31 degrees F. this morning.
I did some last minute shopping at our local Walmart Super Center and then
picked up a couple BoJangles bacon, egg and cheese biscuits for my bride and
I, of which we enjoyed with a fresh cup of Donut House K-Cup freshly brewed
coffee which started the day off in good fashion even with the colder
weather.
My bride wanted to get our immediate family together for Easter this year
and I decided to do a honey baked ham with the two daughters bringing in a
couple different vegetables, etc. In the past, I have done
deep fried turkeys
but baked ham seems to be a more traditional meat served at Easter than deep fried
turkey. My bride before her stroke 9 years ago, did most of the
cooking and what I did was doing things like frying fish, deep frying
turkeys and most of the grilling which tends to be a man thing; more brawn
than intellectual....ok Ladies, go ahead and grin real big!
I purchased a 12.46 pound Smithfield 1/2 bone in ham and it normally
takes between 12 to 15 minutes of baking time per pound at 325 degrees F. to
have the ham at least 160 degrees internal temperature which is what most
recommend for health and safety reasons. In the past, my bride used
various condiments for her baked hams which included whole cloves,
pineapple slices and cherries along with different glazes. I planed to do a much
simpler recipe this year and naturally had to use my
Wild Bill's Meat
Rub along with a fairly standard honey brown sugar glaze.
I got an early start on the
baked ham and everything came off in good form and around 1 PM
both the daughters, Lisa and Laura, Steve, Xander and Trevor were present
along with my bride and yours truly and we started off with a circle of
prayer giving thanks to Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior for providing us
with our Salvation and blessed the food. It didn't take too long
before everything got quiet when the plates were loaded down with those
"beautimous" and tasty vittles!
Our Easter meal consisted of baked ham with honey brown sugar glaze,
potato salad, deviled eggs, green bean casserole, rice broccoli cheese
casserole, sweet potato soufflé, sweet Hawaiian rolls, sweet tea, soft
drinks and a couple frozen pies. Below a few pixs taken, however it is
hard to take pictures with a fork in one hand and a piece of ham in the
other.........grin if you must!
"Jack The Ripper" would be proud
how I so delicately sliced aka slashed the ham....another grin is in order!
The above ham was "off the chain good",
most, juicy and succulent!
Below is the plate of food that yours truly devoured:
Plastic and Styrofoam makes clean up easy, real easy.
After our meal, we kicked back and Xander went outside with Steve, Lisa
and Laura at different times and they placed some soapy bubbles in the air
of which Xander chased them down having much fun doing so.
I didn't get a picture of Travis who came in after 2 PM having to work
today and he enjoyed the meal too!
There was plenty of food left over after everyone that wanted to take
some home with them and I guess my bride and I will make a few ham and
mustard sandwiches next week to keep the frugal theme alive and well.
It would have been great to have all the Porter Kids present but our son
William Jr., and his family lives in California and we do enjoy him when he
gets to visit and/or we visit him.
There is nothing as great as family and friends and as I say at every
opportunity, "Two of the greatest ships that
every sailed, Friendship and Fellowship" which is so true.
I hope and pray that each of you had a wonderful and safe Easter 2015
Holiday and may God's Blessing be bestowed upon you and he keep you safe from
harm.
It is also my prayer that our
Nation and its corrupt leaders will turn
from their immoral and politically correct demeanor, whereby our Nation will
be allowed to prosper Spiritually again! Sin is sin, regardless of
which political party attempts to circumvent the truth with lies.
Again, God Bless each and every one of you!
