FATHER'S DAY 2020The
Porter Family has
celebrated Father's Day both at home and at the
Wadesboro Church of God for
many decades, however I haven't created a page on this website for the same.
I have many wonderful memories of our Dad of whom I called Pop who spent
quality time with us and taught the Porter kids meaningful lifetime valves
centered around Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.
Pop had a continuous testimony for our Lord and Savior and remember the many times
visiting with Mom and Pop, he would have God's Holy Word open on the coffee
table or beside his chair in the living room where he had been reading and studying from the
Bible!
Pop was a
Holy Ghost filled man and remember my last visit with him in
the hospital room here in Wadesboro, NC and the Spirit of God would witness
through him while he was praying and he would be speaking in tongues!
My brother Allen was there along with our Mom and at times I believe Pop was
between both worlds.
Below is the last picture I took of Pop on our deck July 4th, 2007
while he was enjoying some ice cream and cookies and I sure do miss him, but
will see him again in Heaven when my time comes.
There is a story behind the above photo. My bride asked Mom and Pop if
they wanted some ice cream and cookies and Mom replied,
"No", whereas Pop
said, "You speak up for yourself, I want some ice cream and cookies too."
As evidenced by the pix, Pop got his ice cream and cookies too.....grin if
you must!
I have pictures of Pop and additional information on this website linked
here.
HISTORY OF FATHER'S DAY
The nation’s first Father’s Day was celebrated on June 19, 1910, in the
state of Washington. However, it was not until 1972–58 years after
President Woodrow Wilson made Mother’s Day official–that the day honoring
fathers became a nationwide holiday in the United States. Father’s Day
2020 occurs on Sunday, June 21.
FATHER'S DAY AT THE PORTER HOME
With the continued outbreak of COVID-19 and confirmed cases continuing to
increase here in Anson County and our State as well, my bride and myself
decided to stay at home and celebrate Father's Day.
I ordered five (5) large take out pizzas from
The Pizza Inn in
Rockingham, NC which is about 21 minutes away and with our insulated pizza
carry bag, pizzas stay nice and warm and ready to eat when arriving back
home. My bride footed the tab for the take out pizzas and they might
have tasted just a little better than normal..................grin if you
must!
Those attending were Joyce aka my bride, yours truly aka Mickey, Laura
Porter, Travis and Trevor Huneycutt, Lisa, Xander and Lily Gonzales.
GETTING READY TO CHOW DOWN
After giving thanks to Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior for his many
blessing and to bless the food to the nourishment of our bodies, it didn't
take too long for everyone to start enjoying some pizza and a tossed salad,
of which Lisa brought the toss salad ingredients.

VENISON BACK STRAPS FOR THE GRANDBOYS
Our LA (Lilesville Area) Grandboys Travis and Trevor Lane
Huneycutt have loved grilled venison back straps aka loin straps since they
were
small boys and try and grill them some whenever I have the chance
and/or have them on hand.
I got out two frozen vacuum sealed packs of back straps harvested in
November 2019; thawed the back straps out, hand cubed them and placed in a
stainless steel pan with a salt and brown sugar
brine;
soaked them
covered the night before Father's Day. The morning of June 21, 2020, I
rinsed the back straps well with running cold tap water and placed in a large zip
lock type bag and back into the basement game refrigerator until the
around 4:30 P.M. when I started the charcoal for the Weber kettle grill. I
applied a generous amount of
Wild Bill's Meat Rub on them, dipped each piece
in a mixture of melted butter (LandOLakes) and Worcestershire Sauce and placed the
back straps on the
hot charcoal grill. It didn't take but a couple or three minutes on
each side to have the back straps ready to consume. Both Travis and Trevor laid a
whipping on them for sure.
There was one
tenderloin with the sliced back straps which is the muscle inside the
deer cavity next to the back bone and kidneys that I grilled for yours
truly:
I sampled the grilled tenderloin on the morning of 06-22-2020 and it was
outstanding!
LAURA'S FACE MASKS
Laura Porter gave us all face masks that she made which is much better
than the store bought ones. The ones she made had a thin metal nose
strip sewed into it for tightly fitting to the shape of your nose and an
extra pocket inside the mask for adding additional protection if desired. She
gave my bride and myself five (5) each and the same with Lisa, Travis and
Trevor....she made
Lily a smaller mask just for her.
WATER BALLOONS AND SPRINKLER
After our meal, the Gonzales kids; Lily and Xander went outside with
their Mom and myself to fill up some water balloons.
Lisa didn't bring Lily a bathing suit, therefore she went topless for the
water sports!
Both Xander and Lily bombarded their Paw Paw with water balloons and I
got a few good throws in myself, but I might have come up short since I was
out numbered.....grin if you must.
That was all fun, but when I brought out one of the portable yard
sprinklers, the fun just got started.
Lily took control of the sprinkler and started directing the water toward
everyone that was within range which was all of us.
As evidenced by the above pix, she got Xander real good. Lily was
pretending to be a firefighter and said, "I am a great firefighter" and we
sure did get a good grin going from that.
I believe the water sprinkler was the highlight of the Father's day for
both Lily and Xander.

In closing, we all had a
wonderful time celebrating Father's Day. Yesterday, I got a chance to
talk to our son, Bill, Jr. and we wished each other a Happy Father's Day.
"Two of the Greatest Ships that ever Sailed, Friendship and Fellowship", of
which the prevailing winds were in our favor.
I am thankful to God through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior for each
and every day that He allows and one day in the distant future, will see our
Heavenly Father who made all this possible!
