HUNTING 2025
I have only hunted one time from the hunting blind this hunting season
in the afternoon and forgot to take my flashlights. It is an
uphill climb to get to level ground and definitely had problems, since
still being weak from the last two chemotherapy treatments.
There is a bumper crop of acorns this year and deer have not been
feeding on the broadcast corn. Until yesterday, I haven't seen a single
deer during daylight hours in my feeding area and for the most part,
what deer feeding activity has been at night.
However on 12-06-2025, I spotted a small buck in the feeding area around
11:41 AM and tried to make a head shot and missed. The buck ran uphill
into some cover and finally spotted him and took an offhand shot at
about 80 yards and dropped him in his tracks.
I cranked up the lawn tractor and got our grandson Xander Gonzales to go
with me, whereas it was difficult getting up the steep hill/incline, but
managed with Xander's help. A few pixs were taken with the ole
Obamaphone and field dressed the buck. Xander dragged him downhill
to the creek/branch and up the other side of the branch and tied him off
to the lawn tractor.
The buck was hung from the dead White Oak tree nicknamed Tom Dooley aka
Dula, skinned and quartered up and placed in our basement game
refrigerator to age a little and will grind him up next week into
burger. The .270 Winchester 130 grain spiral point boat tail soft nose
bullet messed his neck up badly and didn't try and save it due to the
damage. I was aiming at the bucks shoulder, but glad I dropped him with
the neck shot.I later registered the deer harvest on line to seal the
deal.

This is a good freezer buck and he want make it into the Boone and
Crockett record book, grin if you must!
I hunt for the freezer and not the rack on the wall,
"If it is brown, it is down"
is our meat man's hunting motto.
I still have plenty of ground venison from the past couple years and
glad to finally harvest a deer this hunting season.
I am thankful for the opportunity to be able to hunt, and with the
lymphoma cancer, it has been a challenge, but praise God for his many
blessings and hoping for a full recovery report. My next Dr. visit
is in March and might have to take a few more chemotherapy treatments
and trusting God for healing and appreciate all the prayers sent up on
my behalf!
GRIND AND VACUUM SEAL
Today 12-10-2025, I ground the venison that was aging in our basement
game refrigerator. The Frankenstein meat grinder worked flawless
and feed large chunks of venison into it and it never missed a beat.

After grinding the venison, I took a long rest period and came back
and Xander helped by holding the bags while I inserted about a pound of
venison into it. There were I believe 27 bags and I weighted them
and the total weight was 26 pounds.

The vacuum sealed ground venison was placed in the smaller chest type
freezer and I still had venison dated the year 2022, 2023 and 2025.
My other larger chest freezer has a good amount of ground venison in it
also and if I don't harvest another deer this hunting season, that will
be fine by me.
Tomorrow morning, our Lord willing of course, I will clean the
grinder and pans.
