THANKSGIVING 2018
Below is a copy and paste of the origin of our Thanksgiving here in the USA.
"Harvest festival observed by the Pilgrims at Plymouth. Americans also trace
the Thanksgiving holiday to a 1621 celebration at the Plymouth Plantation,
where the settlers held a harvest feast after a successful growing season.
The Pilgrims celebrated at Plymouth for three days after their first harvest
in 1621.
Thanksgiving is a national holiday in the United States, celebrated on the
fourth Thursday of November. Thanksgiving has been celebrated
nationally on and off since 1789, with a proclamation by George Washington
after a request by Congress."GIVE GOD DAILY PRAISE
AND THANKS
I give God our creator thanks each and every day for His many blessings
through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior and for each breath we take and
allowed by God and cannot praise and honor Him enough for His grace and
mercy.
I asked my bride aka Joyce if she wanted to celebrate Thanksgiving at our
home with the immediate family this year and of course I already knew the
answer being, YES!
PREP WORK
I got as much prep work done ahead of time as I could and left Thanksgiving morning for
deep frying a 15 pound Butterball turkey, preparing, baking the
cornbread
dressing and of course doing the
giblet gravy. The
collard greens were
already done the day before Thanksgiving and only had to warm them up.
The potato salad,
deviled eggs
and earthquake cake
were done on the 21st and chilling out in our basement game refrigerator.
Instead of serving sliced cranberry sauce, I opted to do a
cranberry chutney
earlier.
At the last, I prepared some
fried cornbread which came out wonderfully good
and looked awesome as well. I was planning on doing some corn on the
cob, but that CRS (can't remember
sometimes) disease must have kicked in!
ATTENDING
Those attending were: My bride aka Joyce, Laura Porter, Travis and Trevor
Huneycutt, Lisa, Xander and Lily Gonzales and yours truly.
MENU
The menu consisted of deep fried turkey, cornbread dressing, giblet gravy,
green bean casserole,
sweet potato soufflé, collard greens and ham hocks,
fried cornbread, cranberry chutney, potato salad, deviled eggs, home made
pecan pie, caramel apple coffee cake, earthquake cake, etc.
It didn't take too long
before everyone had their designer sectional trays filled up....grin if you
must since those Styrofoam trays were made by Hefty.
However, we did have real metal silverware only because I forgot to bring
the plastic stuff out.
Below are pictures captured with the ole Canon 30D DSLR camera:
I believe we had enough food to feed about 20 people. My
bride above,
enjoying her meal.
BILL PORTER'S PLATE
I was definitely not shy as to loading my tray up as evidenced by the
below pix:
I forgot to bring out the earthquake cake, get a couple of the deviled
eggs on the tray and forgot to bring to the table King's Hawaiian Rolls!
So much for multi-tasking.....grin if you must!

FAMILY PIXS
Lisa,
Lily and
Xander Gonzales.
I couldn't get a grin out of Lily at this time.
Laura Porter ready to do some serious chowing down!
Travis Lee Huneycutt not willing to cut a grin for the ole camera.
Xander a little camera shy as well on this pix.
No veggies on his plate!
Trevor Lane Huneycutt has never been camera shy and the camera loves him
too!
Another pix of baby Lily checking the camera lens out. She is
definitely a baby doll.
WEST COAST FAMILY
The only thing missing this Thanksgiving 2018 was our son
William, Jr.,
his wife Nichol, Bill's sons,
Will and Jake who live in Vista, CA. I called Bill around 8ish
or later his time and had a good chat with him. He was preparing
smoked turkey legs on his
Traeger high dollar Pro wood pellet grill/smoker and Nichol was busy
in the kitchen. Will was in Las Angeles and Jake was with his
Grandpa Kroel on a hunting trip in Michigan.
All the Porter family were together on November 19, 2016 at the Carolina
Restaurant in Cheraw, SC celebrating Bill and Nichol's marriage, whereas
some of my bride's siblings were present also. I have the details
hyperlinked here:
http://portercalls.com/carolina_restaurant.htm.
My Brother and Sister along with their spouses
were present also. See our
Early Thanksgiving 2016 page.
We visited with Bill, Jr. and his family back in
May of this year hyperlinked
here.
FRIENDSHIP AND FELLOWSHIP
The Thanksgiving meal and fellowship was awesome and Laura went outside
after the meal and watched Xander and Lily have fun playing in the front
yard.
As I state and publish at each opportunity,
"Two of the Greatest Ships that ever Sailed, Friendship and Fellowship"
and we certainly had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Again, I
want to thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior for his many
blessings and the opportunity to share good food and enjoy fellowship with family!

LEAVING ON A
SPIRITUAL NOTE
If you do not know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, please take
