EASTER LUNCH 2016
Easter,
which celebrates Jesus Christ’s resurrection from the dead, is
Christianity’s most important holiday. It has been called a moveable feast
because it doesn’t fall on a set date every year, as most holidays do. Instead, Christian churches in the West celebrate Easter on the first Sunday
following the full moon after the
vernal equinox on March 21. Therefore,
Easter is observed anywhere between March 22 and April 25 every year.
Orthodox Christians use the
Julian calendar to calculate when Easter will
occur and typically celebrate the holiday a week or two after the Western
churches, which follow the
Gregorian calendar.
This years observance of Easter is March 27, 2016 and definitely not as
cold as it was last
Easter which was on April 5, 2015 but a little cooler than last
week. This introduction is essentially a copy and past from last
year's web publishing except for the lunch.
My bride wanted to get our immediate family together for Easter this year
and I offered to do some pork BBQ
and/or Chicken n
Dumplings but our youngest daughter Lisa Dianne Gonzales wanted us
to grill some hamburgers and hotdogs which is about as easy as it gets. In the past, I have done
deep fried turkeys
but
baked ham and
Leg of Lamb seems to be a more traditional meat served at Easter than deep fried
turkey depending on your ethnic background. My bride before her stroke 9 years ago, did most of the
cooking and what I did was doing things like frying fish, deep frying
turkeys and most of the grilling which tends to be a man thing;
more brawn
than intellectual....ok Ladies, go ahead and grin real big!
Laura our oldest daughter and Shane Hough brought a dessert and soft
drinks with Lisa and Steve bringing the hamburger already seasoned, hot
dogs, buns and rolls. I checked earlier with our Huneycutt Grandsons,
Travis and Trevor of which they had plans with their Dad and Step-Mother for
lunch.
I told Lisa that I hope I didn't break out into a rash by easting beef
instead of venison and also she said there was no
Wild Bill's Meat
Rub in the hamburger and I will probably go into DTs for
sure....grin if you must.
Xander,
our youngest Grandson helped
with the grilling and he was off the chain today. If I had only 1/10th
of that energy, it would be wonderful.
Below a few pixs taken:
It has been a very long time that I have used the gas grill since I utilize
the two ugly drum smokers for most of my grilling and BBQing for things like
Boston Butts, chicken, etc. I added a pan of hickory sawdust which is
in the upper right hand portion of the grill and it did kick out a very good
aroma and does add some hickory smoke flavor to the meat. That might
be called cheating the charcoal a little!
The above burgers and wieners are ready to be caped off with grill heated buns
and rolls and I have a few wieners that are charred black for Laura.
It didn't take long to get the buns and rolls lightly browned on the grill
and off to the kitchen and dining room. Xander has a chicken breast
and some pork slices prepared for him also.
Lisa and Steve with a good grin going there. Under the cake dome is
a home made pound
cake to be served with home made
strawberry sauce, Cool Whip topping and/or
Vanilla and Butter Pecan Ice Cream.
Xander has an excellent grin and smile going too upon coaching from his
Mom, Lisa!
My bride aka Joyce getting one of those delicious beef cheese burgers
ready for the roll with a few condiments added; e.g., Duke's mayonnaise,
French's yellow mustard, tomato, slaw, chili, onion and lettuce. Shane Hough in the
background getting a soft drink poured on ice. I like my bride's new two
piece Easter
outfit by Susan Graver which has a little
"bling" going on there too.
I couldn't get Laura to look at the camera and got this pix anyway.
I sample tasted the raspberry custard dessert she brought and it was very
good.
I caught Shane Hough off guard with the above pix. I got a good
blushing grin from both Shane and Steve since I was
off the chain myself this afternoon relating some
events that might go just a shade above PG ratings.....another grin if you
must!
I was too busy with the camera and more busy getting a couple of those
"beautimous" tasting beef cheese burgers together, one at a time mind you,
than getting a self portrait. The 35MM DSLR camera doesn't lend itself
to the current cell phone Selfie
pixs
which appears to be the current trend. It certainly is a good thing
"beauty is in the eye of the beholder." I guess I am about 10 to 20
years behind in technology since I don't even own a smart phone and will not
own one until the little 18 dollar flip top TracFone I use for trips/emergencies is
no longer available which is just my nature. I have friends that are
glued to those things of which I call all cell phones
Obama Phones.
We had a great time and always fantastic when family and friends get
together.
In closing, "Two of the Greatest Ships that
ever Sailed, Friendship and Fellowship."
