An Anson County, NC 20 lb. gobbler harvested by yours truly Bill

his head over a few seductive yelps from my box call with the visual image
of a Jake decoy about to breed the hen decoy. What the thoughts of love
will do to one! Go ahead and grin because you know it is the truth.
Ralph Carpenter with a couple Eastern long beards harvested

and hunts all over the United States. Can't remember who was hunting with
him at the time of this pix.

Quote Jim Yarboro of Gun Barrel City, Texas with a Rio Grande gobbler
harvested on 04-13-09, "Hi Bill , the
call works fine, I had a little tough
time because they had already bred and the Gobblers were not coming to a
call very good, I had been practicing a lot with the Call and I got him to
respond to the Cackle and brought him on in, we have had a lot of high wind
and the hunting was pretty hard, this picture isn't very good! My
buddy took it ,must have moved the camera, Have you been Hunting yet? Later,
Jim." "Yea, I forgot all the details, Rio Grande, 8 in beard, 1 in.
spurs, about 20 lb, dressed out a little over 14 lbs, I'm going to fry him

in May 2009 ....he emailed pixs of two long beards he harvested using my Dual Hens box call.
Another fine long beard by George Aldridge from Oakboro,
NC during the 2009 season. Looks like those Porter field grade Dual
Hens box calls are talking the talk and the Long Beards are walking the walk
and I might add their last walk and final strut too! The above long
beard's beard became detached from him after George fired the fatal shot.

John Gaddy of Polkton, NC with a 23 lb. Anson County long
beard sporting an 11" beard and 3/4 inch spurs harvested on opening day
April 10, 2010. John was surrounded by several turkeys and got this
ole boy around 0740 hours. The ole tom was hot and answered several
different calls including his trusty
Porter Field Grade call with a poplar
base and cedar lid. We were surprised at the weight of the bird and
only 3/4" length spurs. Normally around here, the spurs should have
been over 1 1/8" length for a bird of that weight and beard length.
Bill Porter with a 21 lb. Long Beard harvested on 04-16-10
at about 0906 hours with a 10 inch beard and 7/8 inch spurs that came

12 gauge 11-87, 3 1/2 inch Super-Mag with the
Black Diamond choke tube and Hevi-Shot Magnum blend of 2 1/4 oz. of 5, 6 and
7 size shot bowled him over at 25 yards right before he was about to attack
the Jake decoy. Used one of my Porter Field Grade
"Dual Hens"
box calls
with base made from West
Virginia Black Walnut and a Cedar lid from Anson County.
David Stewart of Ellerbe, NC with a 19 lb. long beard with a

get him within gun range and headed toward giblets and gravy!
Donald Campbell of Halifax, NC with a excellent Long Beard
harvested on 04-21-10. Quote Donald aka Duck, "I walked around the
edge of a freshly plowed field the other day and saw his track and some
dusting; went back Wednesday morning and blew the owl hooter one time and he
gobbled about 100 yards back in the woods. Stuck a decoy 25 yards out
in the field and set up in the edge of the woods and gave some yelps, purrs
and clucks with the Porter Custom Dual Hens Box and he gobbled. Within
10 minutes, here he comes, BOOM! 19 lbs. and 10 inch beard.
(Good Sounding Call), thanks Duck."

calling and was within 10 yards of his blind and headed for his Spread Wing
Jake decoy and toppled the ole boy between 30 to 35 yards. John used
his Browning BSP 3 1/2 inch super magnum shotgun and Magnum Blend Hevi-Shot.
John has an early Porter Prototype Dual Hens box call made out of poplar
with a cedar lid and this call has a higher pitch sound than my current
calls. Click on
sound for a
few yelps from this 2007 call.

Long Beard that weighed 19 lbs., 10 inch beard and 1 inch spur lengths on
04-15-11 at about 7:16 A.M. Long Beard gobbled about 20 minutes prior
to the harvest time and came in after some seductive yelping, clucks and
some purrs from a slate call. John had to lean over on a 3 leg stool
shooting from his portable blind and got off balance and when the shot was
fired, "Big John" was on the ground with both feet in the air. The
Long Beard was less than 10 yards from his blind and literally severed the
ole boys head with only a few shreds of meat holding his head onto his neck.
Long time friend Jim Yarboro of Gun Barrel City, Texas
harvested the above Gobbler on 04-09-11 in Peaster, Texas which is about 10

ole boy in.
My Sister had a broken hip which required surgery, steel pin

Macy Gainey age 7, daughter of Jared Gainey of Ellerbe, NC
harvest this nice long beard on April 7, 2024.
Jared Gainey of Ellerbe, NC harvest this Merriam in North
Dakota to finish out his Grand Slam.
I no longer donate calls to NWTF chapters or support the organization
due to alcoholic bars set up with free drinks as a means to
inebriate potential high dollar spenders and bidders at their banquets.
This is a disgusting and immoral way to conduct business to raise money in my
humble opinion! Also, the usage of
"bar maids" (literally and figuratively) to serve the drinks and assist in the auction is
low class. When you are
of the world, this is a normal protocol.
